Local 514’s Digest for the week of March 31, 2023

President:

Jay Potter and I attended an Association Representative Committee meeting this week in Phoenix AZ. to discuss the Presidential grievances I have filed on behalf of the Tulsa base. I call one grievance “Dodge-ball”, because the Company believes the crew chiefs have a contractual right to pick who is on their crew. I’m happy to report that the IAM believes as I do that they do not have that right. The IAM reps agreed that this grievance is the number one case that needs to be pushed to Arbitration. They also agreed that the qualifications for OT and Field Trips needed to be on the list to arbitrate as well as several they presented to us.

Also remember to sign up for 8 hours OT if that’s what you desire to work. Do not let a Supervisor or a Crew Chief threaten you to only sign up for 4. If you are being told to only sign up for four please call me while they are telling you this and I will immediately come out to the base with a box of contract books for them to read and keep so they can learn the contract. It’s a proffer for 8 hours first, then they can go to a 4 hour proffer.

My number is 918-636-6089.

Take care of each other and keep on the lookout for management trying to catch people out of their work area. The company believes the only thing wrong with Tulsa is that the union members don’t follow the Companies interpretation of Our Contract Rules.

Dale Danker

Vice President:

This week is the International Women’s Committee meeting in DC.  Linda Dill, Eva Hodges, and Betty Palmer went to represent TWU Local 514. They will be lobbying on the Capital.

The company continues to change schedules all over the base. There has been no mutual agreement. If management asks you to choose a change to weekend coverage, please decline and force them to make that decision. If you choose one of their options, they will tell the Union officers that is what you want. Do not fall for their antics.

We continue to work on grievances.

Recording Secretary:

WHY ARE PRESCRIPTION COST INCREASING?

This past weekend, many of us received a letter from CVS pertaining to the 90 day mail order prescriptions. “You no longer have a mail service benefit” The letter stated that you will only be able to fill up to a 30 day supply at a participating, in-network retail pharmacy.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Happy Friday everyone,

We have several members of management working on SOP’s for the plating shop,  while Mr.Adam Weldon, facilities electronic TCC, is working closely with the electronics personnel in the plating shop to ensure that all alarms are functioning properly while he is also making sure they are being recorded on our PM schedules, our Safety Team is monitoring the progress for both sides. While all work is not yet completed, I personally feel safer knowing that it is being monitored closely.

Thank you to all involved in making this happen.

Tracy Hardin:

Some of the most recent 32J investigations could have been prevented by just treating your fellow co-workers with respect. Most conflicts start with a misunderstanding that blows up to termination. Try to remember this is a professional work environment and we all have a part to play. Positive contributions mean we all will win at the end of the day.

If you know someone that is interested in one of the Building and Construction Trades Professions, please get with me. I have contact information that may help them along their career journey. Those trades are looking for dedicated employees just as we are.

The TWU Veterans Committee is planning a general meeting for April 13, 2023 at 3:30 PM at the Union Hall. Open to all.
