A Message from President Dale Danker on the Warn Letters..

All,

This was posted in an Association posting on July 16th, 2020

American Airlines has issued WARN letters to members of the Association.

American is required by law to issue these letters if there is a possibility of a mass layoff. The issuance of WARN letters does not mean that there absolutely will be a layoff and a WARN letter issued to you does not mean that you absolutely will be laid off. Your TWU/IAM leadership believes that work conditions and contract language will minimize or eliminate layoffs for Association members.

It is a known fact that the company has notified the Association of impending layoffs. That notification was driven by the WARN act. Some states require 90 days notice and some states require 60 days. Some states require individual letters be sent to employees and some states only require notification to the union that represents those that may be impacted by the layoff.

Here in Tulsa the state requires a 60 day notice be given to the Union.

So where are we exactly at?
I believe the company could send out layoff notifications no earlier Oct 1st.  They do not tell me a number but only that they will reevaluate things after the early out opportunities close on July 31.
They company has stated that all possible affected employees will be off probation by October 1st. Here in Tulsa that may not be true because training days are not considered work days.
That aside if you are impacted by a layoff and you are no longer on probation you will be afforded all the rights and benefits in your respective contract.

As early as today myself and the other TWU Local Presidents have been notified by International Union Rep Gary Peterson that he has asked the company for a list of union members that will be in the WARN notification number of 3200 put out by American Airlines. As soon as I’m given any information I will immediately get it out to you.
