Local 514’s Digest for the week of January 31, 2025

President:

Please keep those families that lost loved ones in the tragic crash involving one of our Regional jets and a Military helicopter in your thoughts and prayers. It has been several years since we have had a fatality crash, but only one week since we lost a Fleet service agent to an accident in Charlotte. Please be aware of your surroundings and your fellow workers. Work safe and go home to your loved ones.

I continue to meet with Association leaders to try and resolve top contractual issues such as the bid process, crew chief outages, Dodgeball/pickem to try to determine who works with what crew chief, and the OT/Field Trips qualification issues. In some areas, management doesn’t want you to be able to work on certain parts or learn certain processes in the MLS areas. It appears that by trying to eliminate Article 8, which is the article in your contract that determines if you qualify for that job, they can then pick and choose who gets to work overtime and go on field trips. If this is happening to you in your area please contact me directly at 918-636-6089. If they can assign you to work a job on your regular shift then you should not be locked out of OT or Field trips.

Take care

Dale Danker

Vice President:

The window to sign up to be a Steward has closed. I will email you next week to let you know if you met the requirements and whether or not we will have to hold an election in your area.

I appreciate everyone who has shown interest. If you didn’t attend the required three meetings within the last 12 months, please continue to attend meetings. If there is a need in your area, we will revisit it.

Long-sleeve t-shirts are available at the Union Hall on Pine Street. Office hours are 7:00 am – 11:00 am and 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

TMA is becoming a real big  issue, a lot of you know that I have never been a fan tracking facilities work for the simple fact it is primarily used against us, and most of our work is emergency maintenance that you really can’t track accurately, However times have changed and in our company this is the ONLY method used for acquiring headcount, for this reason FMG needs everyone tracking their time as accurately as possible please.

This week we have had a lot of issues with personalities amongst ourselves which is the last thing we (as a union) need to be doing, we have a product that we are selling the company and each of us have a responsibility to deliver our product, if you have an issue that affects your ability to deliver the product you are selling and you, or someone you know needs help resolving that issue please give your union the opportunity to help you before the issue advances further, I want to make sure everyone is aware of this and that you are aware once the union is involved we will do everything possible to resolve it with you.

With the new layout on Jetnet I’ve had issues tracking our headcount, I will get it figured out and give you an update as soon as possible.

We have new long sleeve shirts ready for you to pick up at the Union Hall on Pine street.

As always feel free to reach out to me at anytime.

Don McCormick:

It has been a very busy week to end the month.  Normally I am on base or the grievance office.

I Have been out on the base the last 5 weekends in a row to resolve matters that needed attention.

Most of the meetings with Management are between 9AM and 3PM.  I am usually on base until 6:30PM and have no problem helping resolve issues as need be.  You can contact myself or any officer if you have any questions or concerns.

Grievances – 252 open

YTD-  496  Resolved – This is a rolling number of the last 12 months

  • October –        Resolved 27 with 12 paid and 15 W/D
  • November –    Resolved 22 with 6 paid and 16 W/D
  • December –    Resolved 14 with 2 paid and 12 W/D
  • January –        Resolved 22 with 10 paid and 12 W/D

Had a very successful Grievance Review with Bryan Beene, Mark Winters, and John Hillman January 23rd  for our first meeting in 60 days. In that meeting they agreed to pay 15 Grievances and with updated Workbrain information,we withdrew 4. There were 6 grievances that will need to be reviewed by HR hopefully next week for resolution.

The grievances to be paid aren’t in the January resolved bucket.  They will be put in the Resolved category once Management issues the pay letters to the members.

HGR 5/6

  1. 787 on 6C has been moving in the right direction.  Welcome back home.
  2. 5F LG pits were filled with rock (40 Loads) and concrete on January 20/21. There is a 14-day cure time, but it takes 28 days to jack an airplane on the pad.
  3. Every dock is moving toward E-tasks. Feel free to reach out to the representatives for training and help.
  4. Performed a shift improvement for 10 AMTs in HGR 5    More to come in both bid units in a few weeks with the Transfers out and New Hire AMT’s coming off of probation.
  5. 787 News – It has been announced that we will be getting another 787 line very soon to be in dock 6B.  The management team has already started the process of obtaining the 142 heads (Manpower) to fill the line.  Be looking for open transfers to the area.
  6. CC’s – With the additional line and head count increase, we will need approximately 10 more CC Positions.  These should be posted over the next couple of months.  Reach out to existing CC’s , Management, or myself about what the jobs will entail

AAERO Rumors –  Had 2 impromptu meetings with AAERO group CC’s and Management to discuss the rumours of them being over headcount and 200 members being moved out to AO.

  1. The return of Lease Engines is the key driver.
  2. Heavies take an average of 52 days to turn.  Check and Repair Engines take 20-40 days to turn.
  3. They are getting better yields on their engines for numerous reasons including the EGT Probes testing which had lowered the temp by 40 Degree average which equated to the engines being able to be on wing longer.  Up to 2 years.
  4. AAERO had 80 engines sitting outside last year and have managed to get that down to 34.
  5. Parts are always an issue with manufacturers and this mode the next few months will help them catch up.

The Plan is to reduce the heavies and concentrate more on the Check and Repair side for 3-4 months which requires fewer headcount in the areas.  While this is happening they look to move some extra heads to the Check and repair area.  They are also looking at cross training Members on other jobs in their respective areas.

They stated numerous times that no one will be surplused out.  They need everyone they have in the group when the heavies pick back up in 3-4 months.  They will however not be backfilling as much in some areas.

RETIREMENT –  Whether you’re 60 days from retirement or 30 years.  We highly recommend you go to the TWU Website and review the Retirement Checklist.

  • It is crucial that each member is informed on what benefits are out there and what they should be doing to have a successful plan for retirement.
  • There are hyperlinks to different resources on there with approximate time lines of when to complete or review the steps..

EACH member is responsible for their own financial situation.

This may help guide you in the right direction.

The checklists are set for your hired data:

Welfare and Entertainment

  • Tulsa Oilers HOCKEY – Tickets are available in the grievance office and the Union Hall.
  • Tulsa Oilers FOOTBALL – Season starts in April.  Look for more news on when tickets will be available in March.
  • Family Day will be June 1st at the WE Street Center.

    • American Airlines TAT is  Best in industry for the CFM56. Thank you to all those in the engine shops.

Profit Sharing

  • We’ve been receiving calls from people asking why our profit sharing is not as good as that of other airlines.
  • The Association CBA Article 17 – Profit Sharing
    • The formula is found in Article 17.C.1.  “An amount equal to 10 percent (10%) of the dollar amount of American Airlines Group Inc’s (AAG) Pre-Tax Earnings up to $2.5B for that year, and, an amount equal to 20 percent (20%) of the dollar amount above $2.5B for that year will be attributed to a profit-sharing pool (“Total Profit Sharing Pool”)
    • Article 17.C.2. “ A percentage of Total Profit Sharing Pool will be allocated to the eligible TWU/IAM Association represented employees by dividing the total eligible earnings of all participants in AAG’s profit sharing program(s) (TWU/IAM Profit Sharing Pool).
    • Article 17.C.3. “The TWU/IAM Profit Sharing Pool will be divided by the amount of all the TWU/IAM Association represented employees’ eligible earnings, and the resulting quotient shall be the “payout percentage.”
  • My understanding is American Airlines profits sharing formula is the same as used by Delta.
    • 2024 Airlines Earnings as reported by Google.
      • United: Revenue of $57.1b, Net Income of $3.1B
      • Delta: Revenue of $61.6b, Net Income of $3.46b
      • American: Revenue of $54.2b, Net Income of $846m.
    • American Airlines Pre-Tax Earnings of 1.8b as reported on Jetnet (this is used to calculate the profit sharing). This equates to a total profit-sharing pool of 180m.
