Local 514’s Digest for the week of April 19, 2024

President:

This week we continued by Zoom meetings to work through the contracts represented by the Association. We will pick back up on that work in 2 weeks in Phoenix,AZ.

AAERO concerns

All,

The announcement that AA has signed a 20 year contract with GE has driven questions about the future of the Tulsa engine shops. I have been on the phone with AAERO MD Bo Durasinovic discussing these concerns. Here is what I know. The current state of AAERO is undergoing a 60% increase it’s levels. The volumes for the CFM-7B and 5B engines will keep us busy for several years to come. The 20 year contract signed with GE will not prevent us from working on those engines types during their lifespan nor will it preclude us from negotiating protections for engine types in future contracts between the Union and AA.

The company expressed to me that they would be sharing the current and future needs of AAERO with floor in the coming weeks.

As always I can be reached 24/7 at 918-636-6089.

Take care,
Dale Danker

Base Outsourcing Report, Apr 19, 2024

Outsourcing the LEAP-1B Engine.

  • We learned from media reports that American Airlines signed a 20 year service agreement contract with CFM. This contract covers 400 LEAP-1B engines for the entire MAX 8 and Max 10 fleet.
  • CFM International reported that they have finalized various agreements with American Airlines, Inc. (American) for LEAP-1B engines to power the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 10 fleet. The agreements, among other things, provide for the purchase of spare engines, include a new 20-year service agreement covering American’s existing and new LEAP-1B engines.
  • Obviously this is not good news, especially since the LEAP-!B (B737 MAX) and the LEAP-1A (Airbus NEO) will be the next high volume engine for American Airlines future fleet.
