President:
Brothers and Sisters,
This week, I traveled to Headquarters for a Scope/Outsourcing meeting and to support our Local 514 MCT members at American Airlines Operations Center by delivering their AMT Day gifts.
While there, I reached out to COO David Seymour for a coffee. When we met about a month ago, he asked me how Tulsa can avoid damaging aircraft. I told him I had 65 answers and I’d narrow that down to one. That one answer, based on extensive interviews with over 65 crew chiefs, is clear: we are stretched too thin.
Crew chiefs are being made responsible for multiple aircraft, stretched across multiple hangars. Many times, when a CC is absent, the company has chosen not to replace them, adding to their daily workload. On top of that, they’re expected to deal with multiple layers of supervision and meet FCXP flow with little or no deviation. Current management expectations do not provide crew chiefs with adequate time to be present on the floor during all aircraft movements or when work platforms are being positioned around aircraft.
To manage the chaos, many crew chiefs arrive 20–30 minutes early (off the clock) to figure out who’s on their crew that day and how to adjust manpower. I shared this reality with Mr. Seymour, who was receptive and took notes throughout our discussion.
While I was unable to attend the scope meeting with Jay Potter, he was present with me during all crew chief interviews and relayed our concerns directly to VP of Base Maintenance Greg Emerson. The central ask from our crew chiefs is simple:
1. They want to consistently know who is on their crew.
2. They want to bid on work locations and take ownership of their respective areas, not have them assigned arbitrarily.
The company’s current approach centralizes control and removes the crew chiefs’ ability to manage effectively. Mr. Emerson believes his direction will improve operations, but input from those doing the work tells a very different story, one built on experience and reality on the floor. Unfortunately, many at Tulsa and other bases have expressed a lack of trust in this direction.
Even some supervisors quietly agree with our concerns, though they face the same uphill battle when it comes to being heard by upper management.
Looking ahead, our “dodgeball” presidential grievance continues to move forward. The IAM and the Association legal team support its merit. I’ve been informed that Jay Potter and I will be traveling to Miami the week of June 22 to prepare for mediation with the Association lawyers. If we don’t reach a resolution in Chicago the first week of July, then the case will go before an arbitrator in December.
As always, I’d rather be on the floor sharing a coffee and conversation with you, but representing Tulsa means getting pulled away from Tulsa. I enjoy visiting with everyone, but it’s a big base and impossible to get to every area. If you would like me to visit your area or shift, just call or text me at 918-636-6089. Give me a little notice, and I’ll be there.
Thank you to those who’ve reached out already. It’s always a good time visiting with you.
Take care,
Dale Danker
President, Local 514
Vice President:
Union Steward Meeting is Monday, June 9th.

I went to DFW this week along with the other board members. We went to the IOC to hand out the AMT Day gifts to the MCT group.
Jim, Joe, and I also attended the TWU Safety Summit. TWU locals from different airlines were represented in various types of work. We discussed different safety issues and the ASAP and GSAP programs.
We also prepared for the upcoming GRB.
Grievance Report
We have a total of 1303 grievances, over 700 of which fall in the Crew Chief know outage bucket. We are awaiting arbitration to determine whether they are valid grievances.
Chairman of Maintenance:
This week, I attended the international safety summit in Dallas with a few other board members. We also went to the IOC and handed out the MCT AMT day gifts.
Safety
- Please do not cross construction barriers or get into altercations with contract workers.
- There’s an uptick in accidents this month. Slips/trips and falls are still the highest, with head injuries a close second. We must wear the proper PPE when needed.
SLEEPING
- We have had people in recent weeks who were sleeping while on the clock and now seeking new job opportunities outside of AA. If you are feeling tired, get up and walk around.
SOCIAL MEDIA
- Please be careful when using ANY social media platform; the world and the company you work for are watching. Topics you might not think are harmful can be harmful to everyone involved.
Bids/transfers
- If u are looking to move shops and are currently in a position that works for your home life, or if you are in AMT , please talk to a board member so we can explain the risk before moving shops.
- When placing a bid, you must ensure you are placing the correct one. If you accidentally choose a bid you didn’t want but are qualified for, contractually, you must move until you can bid back.
Shift improvement
- If you are interested in shift improvement, contact the member of management for your area so they can explain the process. The union no longer conducts it; it is now all electronic.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:
I have attended the company and union negotiated quarterly RO and GSE meeting in Dallas this week, some of the issues discussed were;
-System GSE TCC
*The company has the need for this TCC to be used throughout the system so this position will have a strong emphasis on travel the union and company are working to achieve language that supports this without violating members rights.
-System Training
* The union has expressed the desire for consistent and comprehensive training for relevant FM systems and tools
-Bidding Hub
*The union has expressed the inconsistency and lack of understanding and would like to meet with the company on this issue.
This week I also attended the international safety summit put on by our Twu international in Dallas where ALL leaders of the Twu safety were invited, although this summit was very informative its primary goal was to share in the responsibilities of safety and to network with others that have the the same issues in different work groups, the FAA, Pilots and flight crews had representatives present.
As always please feel free to contact me at anytime.
