President:
This week the Negotiations Committee continued via Zoom to prepare for our initial opening meeting with the company on August 13.
I also attended a meeting with several members of the AAERO group to listen to issues surrounding the backlog of parts needing CMM inspection. We have a Presidential Grievance in that area that, if resolved, would have prevented the current issue.
Sometimes when they make a decision that ends up being the wrong one, it goes against every grain in their body to admit it and reverse the decision back to what was working.
As always, I can be reached 24/7 at 918-636-6089.
Please help each other.
Vice President:
Union Stewards: Please update your shift and days off at TWU514.org.
The Working Women’s Committee and the FLOC are working together to donate school supplies to Kendall-Whittier Elementary. The greatest needs are crayons, paper towels, and tissue. If you would like to donate, you can drop items off at the Union Hall, Grievance Office, or to Betty Palmer in Hangar 4D.
The Working Women’s Committee has a team for the Walk to END ALZ on September 21, 2024. We would like to invite you to join or donate to this cause by scanning the QR code below.
Recording Secretary:
As we get deeper into the contact talks with American Airlines, updates will be posted on dedicated boards and on the TWU 514 website to access the website: https://twu514.org/bb.
Chairman of Maintenance:
Tulsa’s safety issues are at an all-time high. Please wear proper protective equipment when necessary.
Management notified us that the company would be installing many cameras for security reasons.
All,
Please be aware that if you’re transferring to a different shop, most likely a shift Betterment was conducted in that shop, and when you are awarded a position, you will have the least desirable shift in the new shop.

Chairman of Material Logistics Specialist:
HEADCOUNT
- We currently have 506 on base with 19 on LOA.
- 9 MLS were hired in July with 17 left in the pool.
GRIEVANCES
- 84 open grievances. We are settling a lot of grievances when they happen. We still file a grievance so they can have a reference for the pay letter.
SEPTEMBER BID
- Issuing and Receiving will not combine this bid.
- I have a meeting set up next monday with AK and Pete to discuss separating CMS and Shipping.
- Management has informed me that people in the Hangars and Whse will have days off during the week for this coming bid. Days off could be Sat/Sun, Fri/Sat, Sun/Mon, Mon/Tue, Tue/Wed, Wed/Thu, and Thu/Fri. I informed them that saying everyone will get a weekend day off and changing it now doesn’t help morale. The answer I received was we have a business to run. This does not affect CAM, TEO, CRC or WBC. You will remain Monday through Friday.
TRANSFERRING
- People jumping back and forth from cleaner to MLS. The company will be hiring a bunch of cleaners. MLS jobs on base are getting filled by new hires. We have to give 14 heads to the CFC by the end of the year. So when someone bids out of an area that position might be replaced or might not depend on the current headcount.
- We are also starting contract negotiations and I’m sure the company wants the Loophole stopped. I want you to be aware so you don’t get stuck somewhere you don’t want to be.

Executive Board Members at Large:
George Albano:
Boston Mutual Life Insurance
I have received many phone calls from Members who have received refund checks and say that their policy is canceled. I’ve reached out to Acrisure ( Union Benefit Planners ). Their response is that Boston Mutual was sent the money, but hasn’t been applied correctly. They are conducting an audit on all policies to correct this. The audit should be completed by early next week.

Don McCormick:
Grievances:
- 273 open
- Resolved 51 since July 1st. 25 paid and 26 W/D
- Waiting on Hollihan to resolve 35 with 25 being (HGR 1-3) paid
- 10 W/D in the next few days.
HGR 5/6
• Shift Betterments for 33 AMT’s
• Conducted 9 CC interviews for General and Avionics (4 GEN and 1 Avionics)
Welfare and Entertainment Committee – has been working on the Adult Party which will be Saturday, November 2nd once again at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
SHIFT BETTERMENT PROCESS (Not Contractual)
- Identify open slots/positions with Management. (1-3 times during the 4 months). They generally will run it when there is a minimum of 5 openings in that bid unit.
- Utilize Re-Bid sheets I/A/W Art 14.1 par I to be eligible
- If you’re on probation you’re not eligible (Company assigns location for training purposes)
- If you transfer in between or after the Rebid, you’re not eligible until the next re-bid. (Company assigns shift/location based on what is vacant)
- E-Board officers will go through the Re-Bid sheets, mark the Location/Shift your on. (Example pick 9) If you’re eligible, only if a pick is open lower than the one you originally picked. (Ex 1-8). Must change either a shift or day off pattern, not a crew betterment
- E-Board officer will call the Cell number on file at TWU514.org. We don’t have access to the AA Database for personal information.
- Calls occur between 9AM-9PM
- If no answer, a text will follow: “Don McCormick here, TWU514 E-Board. You are eligible for a Shift Betterment. S15 Day F/S. Walker CC. You have 5 to 10 min to get back to us or we will move on to the next person.”
- 5-10 minutes to respond is due to the limited amount of time we must complete the process. We are given between a 3-to-5-day window from the company before they start placing new hires and transfers into those open spots. HGR 5/6 has 500 bid sheets that we go through on average and call 150 in the process.
- For those that choose to accept the open spot, their slots are then eligible for others. (Daisy Chain)
- S8. DAY SS. JOHNSONS. E#12345 VACATES S31. DAY FS
- S31 DAY FS. DAVIS E#23456 VACATES. S4 DAY TW
- S4 DAY TW JAMES E#34567 VACATES S24 AFT TW
- We will make every best effort to either go through the 500 bid sheets for betterment. (Our priorities are working grievances and representing members in 32J’s), however management can stop the process if we go to pull more than 3 members off each TW crew. Management doesn’t want to decimate an entire Crew.
- We notify management and members in email of the members who want to move from their existing location to the new.
- Management will issue 541’s to the members and they will follow the information as when to report to their new position.

The Welfare and Entertainment Committee met on Wednesday. We are working with FLOC Committee on the Upcoming Trunk or Treat in October. We also discussed plans for the Upcoming Adult Party at the HardRock Casino with a date of Nov 2, 2024 for that event, We are also discussing plans for the 2025 TWU Family Day as well.
In the Community Services Arena, we discussed the 2024 Bikes For Kids Campaign. Also, the Annual Firefighters Burn Camp is taking place the week of July 31st through August 4th. There are donation cans set up throughout the base, and in the Grievance Office. Please donate if you can. It is a great cause. The cans will be available until Wednesday afternoon on July 31st. Below is more information on the Burn Camp, as well as an active link for more information.
The Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp is a summer camp provided free of charge for children from 6-16 that have suffered major burns or disfiguring injuries at any point in their lives requiring hospitalization.
Burn Camp offers a chance for child burn survivors to make new and life-long friends with other burn survivors, in a setting of love, support, and unconditional acceptance. Adult burn survivors donate their time to show these children that their scars do not limit their ability to succeed in life and to help others.
If you know of a child burn survivor that would benefit from attending Burn Camp, or if you would like more information on volunteering, please call (918) 698-8812, or e-mail us at fundraising@okffburncamp.org.
