Local 514’s Digest for the week of September 26, 2025

President:

TWU Local 514

Hi everyone,

I’m writing to address some of the recent feedback regarding our messages about police presence.

As President of TWU Local 514, I want to clarify that the intent of these notifications is not to condone or condemn speeding tickets. Instead, they are a continuation of a long-standing practice, pre-dating my presidency, to inform our members when the police are present to ensure community safety. Our IT department receives calls and notifications from other members who believe this information is helpful.

If you feel that these notifications have a negative impact and wish for this practice to stop, please attend one of our monthly membership meetings. During the new business portion of the meeting, you are welcome to make a motion to discontinue this long-standing practice. Please be prepared to speak on your motion at the meeting following the date of your motion.

Sincerely,

Dale Danker

Grievances:

Working 4 grievances from HGR5. I spoke with John Hollihan and went over a few concerns, also on Dock 5C, some questions regarding Supervision and lack of respect to the workers. To the groups of HGR5/TLO/Planner workers (my grievance areas) for work done on every shift and all our work groups on TUL base, thank you for keeping our airplanes in the air.

Planners should not be giving direction to a CC on how or where to place their workers. This is a regular CC function. If this is happening in your area, please let the TWU know so we can take action and get in touch with Planner Supervisors.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY COMING UP with TWU Working Women’s Committee:

WHEN: Saturday, Oct 4th, 2025. Plan on being at Skiatook Paws & Claws boarding facility by 9:15 AM.

We will meet at Reasor’s on 86th street North in Owasso, south side of the parking lot at 8:45AM.

We will volunteer from 9:30 – 11:30-12:00. Location is: 123 W. Roger’s in Skiatook.

You can bring dog food, treats, towels, or blankets if you would like to donate to the facility. If someone wants to donate but can not attend that day, please drop items off that morning at Reasors with one of the TWU-WWC members; we will have a sign. Older kids, 14 and up, are welcome to come with an adult.

DID YOU KNOW:

TWU initially began its efforts on organizing workers within the New York Interborough Rapid Transit System; its tactics–driven by the broader ambition of “One Industry–One Fight–One Union”, would later serve as a model for unionizing across the entire transit sector & other work groups/ titles. The 148th Shop was the first great stronghold for the Union and remained so for decades. In June 1934, TWU began holding lunchtime meetings every week outside the 148th shop gates. To counter this, the IRT bosses added a more comfortable lunchroom and extended the lunch break by 10 whole minutes. The 148th were 1400 men from diverse backgrounds, not just Irish but German, English, Polish and a fair few Americans. TWU has always been and remains to be the most diverse union in America. In January 1935, TWU Locals were established for the first time. 148th street was Local 1, Local 2 was the station department, 3 & 4 were Livonia and Corona barns and Local 5 was the 59th Street powerhouse. Thank you Michael Quill, founding father of our union. TWU, still today, the Fight Back Union.

TWU 27th Constitutional Convention was held last week.  President Samuelsen’s message throughout the Convention was we must Fight Back!  We had several key speakers from different industries:

Screen Actors Guild Linda Powell and Rebecca Damon, Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ), Liz Shuler, and Mario Cilento of the AFL-CIO, Major League Baseball Players Association Tony Clark, Marine Engineers Beneficial Association Roland Rexha, Federal Transit Administration Marc Molinaro, Award Winning Broadcaster Ed Gordon, World Champion Para-Triathlete Melissa Stockwell, and District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, International Association of Fire Fighters Edward Kelly and Irish Historian Lorcan Collins.

They all spoke on different topics, but overwhelmingly on the theme of Don’t Give Up.  Fight for what is right, and we are all in this together across different industries, from Local politics to the State Level and up through the National Level, including the different Cabinet positions.

President Samuelsen and other Unions that spoke are all agreeing that the Unions should not be just for Democrats, Republicans or Independents, but instead to be for any candidate that is Pro Labor and helping us push for our Agenda which came out in 17 resolutions that will guide the TWU International and our Locals going forward for the next 4 years.

The Videos, Resolutions, and other information should be up on our TWU514.org website soon.  Feel Free to reach out to any E-board Member or Convention Delegate to ask them about their experiences.

Daron Morgan:

  • Continue working on grievances
  • I currently have 160 open grievances.  104 of those are tied to Presidential Grievances,  64 are Known CC Outages, and 40 are Qualifications.   Out of the remaining 56, 3 are pending pay letters, 20 are pre-jcba,  leaving the remaining 33 in various buckets.
  • Tuesday, we had our Monthly Board Meeting
  • Thursday, we had our Monthly Membership Meetings
  • The Tulsa Oilers  Home Hockey Games will start on October 24th.

Since I have started covering the Hangar 1 & 2 Area, we have had three grievance meetings.  At the 1st meeting, Bryan Beene left about 20 minutes into the meeting, and never returned. The 2nd one, he did not show up, and the one scheduled for Wednesday, September 24th, was canceled by management, but Joe, George, and I were not notified.  We showed up.  Later, I had a conversation with Winters, and he said he had some time on Friday, but he has yet to reach out to me. I have sent emails inquiring about pay letters that have been agreed to be paid, but I am not getting any response.

The Trunk or Treat on October 18th,  sponsored by the FLOC and Welfare and Entertainment Committee is looking for volunteers.  If you would like to just drive your vehicle up to the Hall and hand out candy to the kids, that would be great as well.

Registration for the TWU Adult Party at the Hard Rock on November 22 is open.  You can sign up on the TWU website.  If you have trouble logging in, contact an officer, and we can get you reset.

As you know, last week, all of the officers attended the 27th TWU Constitutional Convention. It was an Honor for me to serve as a Delegate. I have attached a card to my report with two different QR codes you can scan. One is a link to pictures from the Convention that the International has posted, and the QR code is a link that you can use to follow TWU International and see what they are doing.
