Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:
I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the contractual quarterly facilities meetings with the union and company this week in Dallas, unfortunately because of scheduling problems I wasn’t able to attend the actual meeting itself (my fault) However I was able to meet with several members of the other local unions.
I’ve found we are all experiencing similar issues with facilities management not involving the union or growing they’re organization. I’ve also learned that facilities international representative, Tony Mcoy, has announced his retirement February of 2023, it’s unknown yet who his replacement is or if the international has plans of filling his position.
As always feel free to contact me about this or any other issue, if I can help, I will, and thank you for all you do.

Taxes
We plan, prepare, and complain about the TAX season every year and leave many tax breaks on the table overlooked. If you are planning to make any improvements around the house or in your daily life, go to this link:

If you are thinking about solar, appliances, cars, and much more, there may be a tax break for you. Don’t leave the money on the table!
MLK Day
I would like to thank the multiple TWU members that worked hard to make the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration for 2023 a success! The planning committee and the hard working construction team, dedicated hundreds of hours to make this holiday one to remember. The TWU contract of 2020 finally honored this holiday with written language. Continue to celebrate and give back as Dr. King would have loved to.
We Are Stronger Together!

Cubital tunnel syndrome: A common injury among office workers
If you work in an office and sit at a keyboard or desk all day, you’ve probably heard of carpal tunnel syndrome, but what about cubital tunnel syndrome?
Cubital tunnel isn’t nearly as well-known as carpal tunnel syndrome – but it can be just as devastating to your ability to function.
What is cubital tunnel syndrome?
There’s a nerve bundle that runs from your neck to your hand, crossing by your elbow, called the “ulnar” nerve. When that nerve bundle gets compressed or damaged from overuse, it creates problems with your ability to use your hand properly. Because it also controls some of your forearm muscles, it can affect your ability to even grip objects.
Typically, you notice damage to the ulnar nerve when you feel numbness or a “pins-and-needles” sensation in your little finger and ring finger, although a lack of muscle control in your hand can also be a tell-tale sign.
What causes cubital tunnel syndrome?
Basically, anybody who has to bend their elbows a lot and people who rest their elbows on their desk all day are at risk of developing this condition.
There isn’t a lot of fleshy material around your elbow to protect those nerves, so cubital tunnel syndrome is basically (like carpal tunnel) a repetitive strain injury – which usually creeps up slowly and can be ignored or worked around until it gets severe.
Can you get workers’ compensation for cubital tunnel syndrome?
You can. Any injury that arises from your course of employment is potentially eligible for workers’ compensation. Don’t be afraid to pursue a claim to get the benefits you need to recover.

Pullovers:
We have distributed 2395 Pullovers to our Local 514 Brothers and Sisters since the December 2022 membership meetings. These are the Christmas Gifts for 2022. There are 1623 members that have not been able, (for whatever reason) to come by and pick one up. Our daily business at the Union Office does not afford us the time required to be at the ready to hand them out. So Please be patient and understand that this is a very large task and we are doing our best to get them out to all of you.
We are working towards making them available at the base. We will keep you informed as we make our plans for distribution going forward.
Mental Health Lifeline
Call or Text 988
In 2020, Congress designated the new 988 dialing code to be operated through the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. SAMHSA sees 988 as a first step towards a transformed crisis care system in America.
REMINDER
At the earliest, our CBA could open for negotiations on September 26, 2024. It would be great if you share with the current officers your thoughts on what you believe we need going forward. Tell us what you think is working well or not working well.
Email: Negotiations@twumail.org with your ideas.
Special Thanks to all that have submitted their ideas. You are the ones that will help to make a difference in our efforts.
