Local 514’s Digest for the week of October 4, 2024

President:

This week I traveled with other TWU/IAM negotiation committee members to Chicago and Dallas to present information on the upcoming vote on the economic contract extension. We held meetings in Tulsa Thursday and Friday to cover the same information. There was good turnout at all the meetings. We covered questions from why are they giving us money to health insurance and retirement investments, premium raises to why are there differences in the pay increases. All good questions that were answered to the best of our ability. If you have not yet checked your address on file with AA please do so. See association letter here.

Also there is a video to cover the details about the economic extension as well as the open items settled here.

As always I can be reached at 918-636-6089

Did You Know?

The FAA has been shorthanded on air traffic controllers for a long time and are in immediate need. They have approved that graduates from two college air traffic control programs can bypass their backlogged training academy. Graduates from Tulsa Community College and the University of Oklahoma can begin immediate facility training, skipping the FAA program!

Way to go for the local schools.

Complacency with Safety

1.   2 members were injured from a 737 Landing Gear Stand pin coming out of its slot.   Please take the time and look over every piece of equipment and stands you are working with to make sure it is in proper working order.  Any issues immediately notify your CC and tag the piece of equipment with an out of service Red Tag.

2.  If you’re interested in joining the Safety team for Hgr 5/6, reach out to myself or Brian Drenthe.

Dockworkers at East and Gulf coast

Roughly 45,000 members of the International Longshoremen’s Association went on indefinite strike Tuesday. Then on Friday they reached a T/A to suspend that strike until January 15th.

Our Thoughts go towards the safety and well being of the Union Brothers and Sisters and their families during these times. As we are certain that the stress and blame will be borne by labor.

Local 514 member, Dennis Lyle, Tech Ops – Tulsa

American Airlines recognized five of its top aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) for their exceptional work in their field as recipients of this year’s Ken MacTiernan Excellence in Aviation Maintenance Award.

From all of us here at Local 514, Congratulations Dennis!
