Local 514 Digest for the Week of October 15th, 2021

Open Enrollment

We are aware the open enrollment window for medical benefits will be available Oct 15, 2021. Before you make that final selection and submit your choices, pay close attention to a few areas;

    • LTD automatic enrollment. If you don’t want the coverage you must decline the coverage.
    • Who are the beneficiaries of your life insurance. Check the names and information at this time.
    • Extra life insurance coverage is easier to purchase at this time.
    • Other coverage’s that may auto enroll like Hospitalization, do you want coverage or not.

Remember to read it carefully and ask questions. It is easier to correct now than after the window closes.

Attendance Control Policy

The company announced on October 13, 2021, that they will be implementing a “Point” Policy on attendance. There is a CBT in the Learning hub that covers this. We do not have any answers at this time as to the full details. Please get with your local management to have them answer your questions or call 918-292-2698

Nov 15, 2021 will be the implementation date.

Who qualifies for pandemic leave?

Eligible U.S.-based mainline team members who are active and not on any other consecutive leave may qualify for pandemic leave. Inactive team members, as well as contractors and temporary team members, are not eligible for a pandemic leave of absence under this policy.

As of Oct. 1, 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, pandemic leave applies to (except where required by law):

    • Fully vaccinated team members who have tested positive for COVID-19.
    • Fully vaccinated team members who have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, resulting in the need to quarantine while awaiting test results.

Fully vaccinated team members are not required to quarantine after exposure or get tested for COVID-19 if asymptomatic (except where required by law).

(People are considered fully vaccinated once they’ve received their second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. Booster shots are not required to be considered fully vaccinated.)

Questions concerning termination of employment for not getting the Covid vaccine

All, I’ve been getting lots of questions about vacation, pension and sick payout.

Per Article 23 – Vacations para. O.

Vacation accrued through the last day of work will be paid to any employee leaving the service of the Company because of retirement, reduction in force, resignation, or discharge. In case of the death of an employee, the amount due shall be paid to his legal heir or representative.

If discharged you will be entitled to your accrued vacation.

Pension

I have had email conversations with the company retirement representative and she confirmed that you will be eligible for your pension even if you are discharged. The only way you lose your pension is if you are deceased.

You can request your pension package on Jetnet.

Sick time

If discharged your sick time will be paid out at the time you start your pension. If you are planning to retire and would like to put sick time in a RHRA, the company requires a 4 month notice period. That being said, I’ve been advised that you should request it now if in fear of being discharged due to the Covid vaccine mandate.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. If I don’t know the answer I will try to get one.

Medical or Religious Accommodations

On Jetnet Federal Vaccine Requirement

Requesting an exemption

The federal mandate allows for exemptions to be granted in two circumstances.

To individuals with a medical disability that prevents them from receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. This requires a signed statement from a doctor or other licensed professional.

To individuals with a sincerely held religious belief that prohibits them from receiving the vaccine.

ATTENTION:

If you submitted an accommodation request before the company updated the link to be electronically filed you may want to resubmit until you get a confirmation email.

Employees may reserve up to one hundred twenty (120) hours of earned vacation to be taken one (1) or more days at a time (DAT). Any changes to the number of DAT days the employee had the previous year must be made by midnight, November 1st. Employees who do not elect to change the number of DAT days will have the same  number of DAT days as in the previous year. Employees will have up to December 1st to choose vacation periods, and the Company shall post the vacation assignments as indicated from the employee’s preferences by December 20th.
