Local 514’s Digest for the week of June 16, 2023

President:

I attended an IEC International meeting in Montreal,Canada. As an International VP, I serve on our Executive Council.  The Council listens to all Division Director reports and has an open discussion about what’s going on in those divisions.  We discuss our International finances and vote to approve all reports.

Locally I have been working on Presidential grievances, an EEOC claim against our Local, and an appeal on the board’s decision to hold an election for the vacated Executive board position. I would like to report that I spend a large majority of my time on the majority of the membership but, the reality is just the opposite.

I’m available at 918-636-6089. If you need help with a contractual violation, vacation issue, DAT issue, or something that concerns your local management team please give the Union stewards a chance. They were elected to work for you and are willing to do just that.  If you need help with company insurance please approach your supervisor on work time.  They charge you for insurance and they should be able to help with that.  The Union sponsored plans have  phone numbers and websites where you can contact them to get your questions answered, also the officers are always willing to stop what they are working on to answer insurance questions. The other local Presidents and I are actively trying to find a better insurance company that will support their products instead of relying on the union reps to do their jobs.  Until that can happen we will remain status quo.

It’s always great to talk and laugh with old friends at the smoke off.  Thank you to the new members that came up and introduced yourselves. It was nice to visit with you.

Dale

Vice President:

We continue to work through grievances. We are reaching out to members when more information is needed.

If you receive a message please get back to us as soon as possible.

Reach out to the Union Stewards in your area when you have a grievance to file or a 32J to attend. They work with the officers to get your grievances resolved.

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

I attended the contract binding Quarterly Facility and GSE update from the company this week at headquarters in Dallas and as normal the day before both the IAM and TWU (Association))met to discuss the agenda presented by the company prior, the items discussed both days were the construction across the system being managed by Corporate Real Estate, and the safety issues of GSE rental equipment, from my perspective both days seemed fruitful.

Now more than ever before we need to support our Brothers and Sisters across ALL negotiation groups in our union.

Feel free to contact me at any time.

Grievances Committee

    • Pre Contract – we are going through and contacting members and union stewards about these.  Most of them have no attachments or notes to help us present and win and without additional information they will be withdrawn.
    • Post contract grievances – we are doing a better job of documenting them and working with management in getting these paid or moved forward.
    • GRB – we are taking several stronger cases with attachments and will be presenting at the end of the month.
