This is urgent. Our future at American Airlines is at stake.
The DOJ’s attempt to block the American-US Airways merger will put our members at a competitive disadvantage. The DOJ would allow market share to be concentrated with just two mega-carriers – United and Delta. Faced with increased competition, American Airlines would be weakened and without a viable reorganization plan as a stand-alone carrier.
The DOJ’s lawsuit fails to consider the hard work and sacrifices we’ve made to keep American Airlines in business over the past decade. It forces us to risk our future on the same management team and business plan that drove us into bankruptcy. We would also lose our equity stake and the 4.3% wage increase that is due upon completion of the merger.
In the not-so-distant past, the Obama Administration pushed through a $50 billion bailout at General Motors to rescue the automaker and save jobs. At American Airlines, we are not demanding any bailout or government assistance. We simply ask the DOJ to get out of the way and allow us a fair opportunity to be competitive. We want to pursue a path with the new American Airlines that allows us to retain good middle-class jobs for working families.
Sign our petition now to tell Attorney General Holder not to block the merger. We can’t allow our equity stake and pay increase to be delayed by irrational government intervention.
We have waited far too long for American Airlines to develop a reorganization plan that allows us to receive the industry-standard pay that we deserve. The DOJ must step aside and allow us to build a better economic future for our families and communities.
