Allen Thurman Obituary
Allen Russell Thurman
June 12, 1946 – June 14, 2023
Allen Russell Thurman, age 77, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at his home. He was born June 12, 1946, in Independence, Missouri, a son of Louie and Terressa (Lorton) Thurman.
On February 14, 1981, in Denton, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Maureen Kathryn Kelly. Together they shared the past forty-two years of marriage.
Allen and Maureen lived in Claremore, OK, for 31 years, working for American Airlines as an Aviation Maintenance Technician. They lived on a five-acre horse ranchette and kept several horses. After retiring in 2016, Allen couldn’t get back to his home state of Missouri fast enough, moving into a lake house on The Lake of the Ozarks. He would enjoy many lake adventures on his Tritoon and Colbalt bowrider boat. Allen and Maureen traveled the world extensively. They enjoyed world class restaurants and exotic locations such as Grand Cayman, Africa, Vietnam, Cambodia, France and much more.
Allen could not start his morning without the Kansas City Star and US Today newspapers. He would sometimes travel to several towns to acquire both. He would be the first to proudly tell you that USA Today rated The Lake of the Ozarks as the #1 recreational lake in the US.
Allen was a diehard fan of the KC Chiefs and Royals, building an extensive mancave in his lake house basement dedicated to both teams, where he celebrated a couple of Chiefs’ super bowls and Royals’ World Series. Allen also collected and listen to a very eclectic collection of music which he shared with others in their cove.
Survivors include his wife, Maureen Thurman of the home; a brother, Wayne Thurman and wife, Pat of Santa Fe, New Mexico; nieces and nephews, Sarah Burton, Pat Kelly (Elise), Dan Kelly (Courtney), Michael Kelly (Tina), Steven Kelly (Katie) and Annie Kelly (Andy); and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nelda Burton.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
