Don Ross Fletcher Obituary

Claremore, OK – Don Ross Fletcher

April 5, 1934 – September 30, 2026

Don passed away on September 30th at the age of 92.

Don was raised on a farm in Thurston, Nebraska. After working on the family farm, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 as an electrician’s mate, with assignments in the Philippines, Guam, Alaska, Oahu, San Diego, and Hutchinson, Kansas. He later graduated from Spartans School of Aeronautics in Tulsa and worked as a mechanic and crew chief in the APU shop for American Airlines from 1960 until his retirement in 1996.

Don met his wife, Betty, at a Valentine’s Day dance, and they married six months later in 1964. Together they raised three children: Vince Fletcher (Mina), David Fletcher (Jackie), and Donna Fletcher. He was a proud grandfather to Alex, Sarah, Nolan, and Cole, great-grandfather to August.

After Betty’s passing, Don found love again and married Kathy in 2000. They enjoyed spending time with Kathy’s family, Kim, Daryl, and David, and her grandchildren, as well as traveling and cheering on their favorite football and basketball teams.

A member of First Baptist Church in Claremore, Don served as a Sunday School teacher, coached youth baseball & basketball, avid fisherman, woodworker, and master gardener. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, wisdom, sense of humor, and serving others.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Ross & Blanche, wife Betty, brothers Paul & Glenn, granddaughter Mallory, and nephews Johnny Paul, Danny, Larry, and Barry Fletcher.

Nothing brought Don greater joy than spending time with his family, fishing, playing checkers & cards, and helping others. Whether in the garden, on the lake, or cheering on his favorite team, Don enjoyed life’s simple pleasures.

Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Claremore on October 9th, at 10:00 a.m.
