The Passing of Retired Brother Victor Koenning

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our retired brother, Victor Koenning, who left us on September 27, 2024.

Brother Koenning dedicated an impressive 30 years of his life to American Airlines, joining our team in 1966 and retiring in 1996 as a Technical Crew Chief, Special Support. During his remarkable career, he demonstrated exceptional dedication, expertise, and innovation, earning numerous awards for his outstanding contributions.

One of the highlights of his illustrious career was being named the 1991 Mechanic of the Year by then American Airlines CEO Robert Crandall. This prestigious award was a testament to Brother Koenning’s commitment to excellence and his ability to think outside the box, implementing innovative ideas that made a lasting impact on our organization.

We remember Brother Koenning as a devoted colleague, a brilliant mind, and a true pioneer in his field. His legacy will continue to inspire us, and we are grateful for the time he spent with us at American Airlines.

Victor Koenning Obituary

A Celebration of Life was held for Victor E. Koenning August 31st, 2025 in Owasso, OK. Victor, and the love of his life Josephine, were married 66 years ago in College Station, Texas. They were blessed with three children, a son, Victor Jr., and two daughters, Kathy and Kristen, also ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A long time Owasso resident, Victor was a retired airline mechanic for American Airlines with thirty years of service and a multitude of Awards for his innovative ideas, some of which helped earn him the 1991 Mechanic of the Year presented by then American Airlines president Robert Crandell. Victor was also a retired Owasso Volunteer Firefighter. Known as “Pop Pop” and “Mr. Fix It,” Victor loved to hunt and fish, go camping, and work in the garden, and he especially loved to rock his babies for naps. He will be missed by all who knew him, but will never be forgotten.
