The US Department of Transportation is putting on hold its application for a Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP). In a statement, the DOT said it would require additional time to study the various points of order brought up by several labor unions that had opposed the carrier’s application including: the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA); the Transportation Trades Department AFL-CIO (TTD); the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA); the Transport Workers Union of America AFL-CIO (TWU); the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM); and the European Cockpit Association (ECA). Sen. Lankford

Sen. Inhofe
Senators Inhofe and Lankford
I had a chance to speak with Senator Inhofe and Senator Lankford. They are both highly committed to keeping America Airlines here in Tulsa. I briefly explained that we are in negotiations with American Airlines and that foreign MRO’s are not held to the same standards as USA maintenance facilities. I let each Senator know that a larger percentage of outsourcing was how the old US Air management team ran their operations and that it is a major concern for the entire workforce in Tulsa. I will continue to work on placing labor in the forefront to our Politicians.
I may need your help on the political front. If you have any suggestions, or a direction you would like to share, please email me @ Political@twumail.org. As always we need to stay in touch with our political system, much of what we see today that fails us as a labor community is due to our lack of participation as a whole.
Negotiations
Disappointed.
In my opinion, If the company were negotiating in good faith, we would be there by now. They screwed us in bankruptcy and want to keep what they took from us. Please be wary of what they are saying on jetnet and in their town hall meetings. Though some members are upset and disappointed at the Association it is the negotiating team put together by the Association that is fighting the company on everyone’s behalf. We are not making deals at the water cooler, we do not go to dinner with them and laugh and joke over cocktails. I along with 11 other members on the team are fighting at the table and are not willing to bring back to you a contract that continues to give everything to the company and nothing to us. The statement “shared sacrifice “ still burns in my gut and to me are fighting words.
Safety
I have lost a good friend, Billie Padgett. He lost his life Saturday in a one in a million chance, accident. We are all exposed to hazardous conditions both at work and at home. I myself am not one to ask for help when I am at home working on projects. Billie’s death has caused me to think about every dangerous thing I’ve ever done. Here at work we have several people involved in making sure we have a safe workplace. At home we only have ourselves.
We are a large active group and we have lost so many friends to tragic accidents. Please be careful and aware of your environment. Please don’t be bull headed like I am…please ask for help.
Seniority Integration

Rec. Sec. Jay Potter
Local 514’s Recording Secretary, Jay Potter met with the Seniority integration committee July 6th and 7th in Chicago. The “Tie Breaker” methodology was presented by both the IAM and the TWU, Due to the importance that seniority has to our organization we have spent numerous hours on this process. There have been many theories on how best this should be resolved to make it as fair and equitable as possible. As of this week I believe that we are very close to making that happen. The final decisions have not been made but what is left to be considered should be near completion at our next meeting. The next meeting is set to take place in Washington D.C. , July 21, 2016.
