The Tulsa Area United Way, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service and other local organizations, assists families with free preparation of their income tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
This program helps local residents, whose household income is less than $55,000 a year, to access tax credits for which they are eligible, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, and Education Credit. The VITA program utilizes IRS-trained community volunteers to provide this free service to local residents.
VITA volunteers assisted 2,456 people in preparing and filing their 2017 income tax returns, bringing over $3 million back into the community in federal funds. This valuable service needs volunteers for the 2019 tax season. Volunteers will receive free training that will enable them to provide this assistance to the community. The training is offered both online and in the classroom. VITA sites are open days, nights and some Saturdays so you can choose the schedule that works best for you!
