President:
Denver Presidents Meeting:
AA TWU Presidents and Officers discussed the upcoming meeting with AA scheduled for Aug. 27-28.
“Dodgeball” & Inspection Presidential Grievances:
During the week of Aug. 26, I’m scheduled to meet with the AA attorney Oliff and HR Voss, along with TWU Rep Rollie Reaves, to discuss the “dodgeball” and 2018 Inspection grievances. I want to thank the Executive Board officers for their help in preparing for the “dodgeball” grievance and Jason Best for his tireless efforts to find a resolution to settle the CMM/Inspection grievance.
The elephant in the room:
There have been a lot of social media posts and a video concerning the potential of American Airlines offering an economic proposal to bring back to our membership with the plan to extend all Association contracts. Speculation and hearsay are high, but I want to caution everyone by saying we will only know something after the meetings, which start Aug 27. After AA meets with the Association at AA HQ, there will be a follow-up meeting with the negotiation team to share with us what, if anything, was offered or discussed.
OSM and MSP Pay Rates:
I, along with Rollie Reaves, Jay Potter, and Jason Best, have been researching and preparing data for conversations regarding OSM and MSP pay rates. Those classifications took the same percentage pay cuts many years ago but have not increased with the exact percentages as other classifications. There are reasons that happened at the time, but we are doing everything we can to bring them back in line. I heard the conversation from the floor that suggested that the OSM classification should be eliminated and everyone should be placed on the transfer list to upgrade to an unlicensed mechanic position. There has been a long-standing rumor that Ex TWU Local Presidents, in previous negotiations, sat at the table and proposed to AA to get OSM’s unlicensed mechanic pay rates. I have asked several of them if that was true. Had they ever presented that proposal in past negotiations with AA? So far, the answer has been no because the company would have outsourced that work like they intended to do in 1995. Past and present, DWH and Tulsa Union leaders have continued to fight to keep as much OSM/MSP work as possible. They are great jobs that can provide a pathway to a mechanic position. That said, we must use factual data on all classifications to justify what we ask for at the table. Rollie set up a phone call for Jay and I to talk with the Association Economist to help him prepare us for those meetings with AA. Others have posted pay and medical comparison charts. Still, it will be Economist Rich Pantoja who will prepare and provide the charts that both parties to the Association will agree to use on your behalf to get you the best annual package for the work you do. The packages include not only pay but also 401k, health/ life insurance, and earned time away from work.
Surveillance:
Many cameras have been installed on the base, some in break rooms. Fac MX Chairman Jim Holt and 514 IT Director Allan Ball are working to build an access point on the 514 website that will show you where every camera is located.
Town Hall
I was informed that Ed Sangricco will hold town hall meetings the week of August 26. I would typically like to attend and participate, but Jay and I will be in Dallas that week for negotiation talks.
Take care,
Dale Danker
