Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

Let’s party!!!!

On New Year’s Eve the Tulsa AA base had a major domestic water leak south of Hangar 5 that interrupted incoming water to every building south of the warehouse and in lieu of bringing in the new year our facilities plumbers out of base utilities, were busy repairing the line.

The line break took more than 12 hours to repair and because of them it had little or no adverse effect on production , this is just one of many benefits to AA in having experienced facilities mechanics on site.

Thank you to all involved in the repair.

    • Budgeted headcount 308
    • Current headcount 299
    • Out on LTD 13

MLK

As we come off the heels of the holidays and the new year celebrations, we ease into another holiday that is ultra important to union members world wide. On January 14th. We celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His contribution to labor and the union movement is incomprehensible. He paid the ultimate price to make sure workers had dignity, respect, and a fair wage. The AFL-CIO has many champions aka: A. Philip Rondolph of APRI, William Lucy of CBTU, and Nelson J. Edwards to name a few. These leaders were inspired by the works and ideas of Dr. King.

So as we celebrate, reflect, and volunteer this coming holiday, take a little extra time to educate yourself and loved ones on the history behind the holiday.

Outsourcing

As of this morning, January 13, 2023, Base Maintenance has twenty four (24)  aircraft at outside vendors and twenty four (24) aircraft at our in-house bases.

I continue to receive calls regarding component shops outsourcing of specific components.  Our goal as your  leaders of Local 514 is to be American Airlines first choice to accomplish all their maintenance in-house.  That being said, according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 6, our component shop scope language is based on a  minimum headcount. The component minimum headcount is required to be 20% of the AO and AO Support Shop headcount.  Joe Brown and I continue to meet with the company and advocate for our members to do as much maintenance in-house as possible. We are scheduled to meet with the company this morning.

Hope everyone enjoys the MLK Holiday on Monday.
