Local 514’s Digest for the week of Sept 2nd, 2022

President Update

This week we had our Grievance Review Board meeting in Dallas Tx. After that I spent time with Local 591 President, Gary Schaible and Local 567 President,Rollie Reaves to go over problems that we have been experiencing with the Association and working on solutions.

Marla and I also visited with several AA pilots and walked with them in front of AA Hdq to support their efforts in negotiations as they did for us in our lengthy battle with Isom.

Local 514 Office Restoration

We are still under restoration since the July 10th, 2022 water line break that flooded more than half of the Union Office. We were told that the work will take 3 more weeks to complete. We have all our daily operations up and running. We ask that you contact an officer prior to coming directly to the office building as we are short on offices. As always, contact your area Steward to resolve any issues you may have. (See the Steward roster HERE)

American Airlines must make changes to sick leave policy

An arbitration board supported flight attendants who said they could be fired for normal, planned absences.

American Airlines must make major changes to the sick leave policy that the union representing flight attendants called sexist and unfair, an arbitration board ruled Thursday.

The ruling will make it harder for American Airlines to penalize flight attendants under a program that started in fall 2018. Flight attendants said they were accumulating penalty points that could easily lead to being fired, even though pilots have no such system.

Brother Greg Brown needs our help

Our fellow brother, friend and co-worker Greg Brown, is out on medical leave. We are not sure when he will be medically able to come back to work, but an extended absence is most likely.

Greg has only been with the company 5 years and did not have much vacation and sick time to fall back on, and with his illness; sick bank, vacation bank and DAT have all been wiped out.

When Greg became ill he was last working on midnight’s as a planner in the 1C/D office. We are hoping to help Greg with any expenses that are going to occur with his medical and living expenses since he will not be drawing any type of salary from AA.

We have set up a Tragedy Account with the AA Credit Union in Greg’s name. Please give what you can. Donations will be accepted for the next 90 days at the AA credit Union. We will also have a collection box on 1C/D.

If you have any questions, please contact Kari Hurt 918-313-9676, Delores Jackson 918-605-2518 or Jill Graham 918-500-5644.
