Metlife Dental Plus

Members are reporting issues with Metlife Dental Plus as far as Dentist charging out of network prices or not accepting coverage under plan . For members having any issues please email Terry Buck at tbuck@twumail,org with issue , name ad employee number .

TWU-IAM LTD

If this line shows on your pay statement under after tax, TWU-IAM LTD; this is Long Term Disability through Metlife, We ask payroll to change the name as it is misleading. This is not the union policy. Each member should review for themselves and make the decision on which policy is best for them. You can not carry both policies, please see an officer if you have any questions.

Overpaid?

If you receive an over-payment in your pay, for whatever reason, you need to address it as soon as possible. Please notify your Supervisor to get it remedied. If this goes on for several weeks and the company finds the error, they will take the entire amount back on the next check. This has happened to many members. Please be aware and monitor your pay.

Transportation Emergency?

ARTICLE 14 – HOURS OF SERVICE

K.

Adverse Condition Day – When a decision is made by Federal, State or Local Government officials that prohibits an individual employee from reporting to work (i.e. Travel Ban, Curfew, or State of Emergency), the employee will notify the Company as soon as practical, and the Company will approve the options listed below.

    1. An employee who is scheduled and reports to work on time will be entitled to full pay for the day, unless the employee voluntarily agrees to either take the rest of the day off without pay, or to use any other  compensated time off (excluding block vacation and sick) to make up his wages for time missed when absent due to adverse conditions.
    2. An employee arriving later than the beginning of the shift will be paid only for the actual hours worked and may use HAT (paid in a minimum of one (1) hour increments at straight time) to cover any time lost, or take time missed without pay at the employee’s option.
    3. When an employee is absent due to adverse conditions, and is unable to report to work, he will not receive regular pay for that day. The employee, at his option, may use any other compensated time off (excluding block vacation and sick) to make up his wages for time missed when absent due to adverse conditions.
    4. If any of the above applies, an employee will not be charged with an absence/tardiness under the attendance control policy.

I would not look for the company ever calling another “Transportation Emergency” however, at this point and time they are working with TL and DAT times.

Vice President

FEMA to help with COVID-19 related Funeral Cost

Earlier this week, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) issued a new opinion opening up disaster funeral assistance for victims of COVID-19. Families who have lost loved ones to this deadly virus are now eligible for federal assistance to cover or defray funeral costs. As a national union whose members have seen far too much suffering and loss because of the virus, we encourage you to share the following resources with your membership to help ensure TWU members are aware of this change.

Reminder: Apply for the Quill Scholarship 2021

The union has been honoring our founder with these scholarships since 1969. Quill Scholarship awards have benefited hundreds of TWU families. Children of our members in transit, railroad and air transportation, utilities, public employment, space installations, and allied industries are among those who began their college educations with the help of the TWU’s signature scholarship.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2021 Michael J. Quill Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will offer fifteen (15) college-bound dependents of TWU members a scholarship worth $4,800.00. This scholarship will be paid out, each year in the amount of $1,200.00 to winners who continue to be eligible over their four (4) year course.

Federal mask mandate, Note from David Seymour

Last week, the U.S. government rolled out a new federally mandated Security Directive to require masks in all airports, on all aircraft and while traveling using public transportation. We’ve long been a strong proponent of masks on board our aircraft and in our workplaces as they are one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help keep our team members and customers safe.

While we’ve required customers to wear face coverings on board our aircraft and team members while at work since May, this federal mandate helps our airport team members and our flight crew members who work diligently to enforce our current policy and further reinforces the safety of air travel during the pandemic.
