Leo has returned to Work back in AO, Dock 4A. It has been a long road of healing and physical
therapy to re-learn how to walk. October 24th 2015, the OSU Homecoming football game was a life changing day for many.
If you get a chance to see Leo in your day to day, be sure to let him know we are glad to see him back at work. He is truly an inspiration to us all.
Leo Stated in an article with OSU:
“Yes, it was a tragedy I was in, but I’m having a positive attitude, and I’m moving forward. I want my life back. I’m doing anything I can to move forward. I wouldn’t be where I am now without Jesus’ help or my wife’s help.”
Schmitz spent a month in intensive care and several more weeks in a hospital bed. Sharon Schmitz says her husband of 21 years was in a controlled coma until late December and was discharged from Tulsa’s St. Francis Hospital on Jan. 5.

From his Go Fund me Page:
Leo & Sharon Schmitz travelled with family (and alumnus) to OSU in Stillwater Oklahoma for the 2015 Homecoming Parade and Football game. He had been in Stillwater only weeks beforehand to help deliver an MD80 aircraft donated by his employer, American Airlines to the Aviation School at OSU. Unfortunately, they never made it to the game. Their fun filled day turned tragic when they were struck down on the parade route by a speeding motorist.
Sharon received a leg injury, was treated and released from the local hospital. Leo sustained massive injuries when impacted by a large heavy flying object, likely a motorcycle. The car keys in his pocket were bent beyond use. He was the first person airlifted out to OKC and received 8 hours of emergency surgery.
