Local 514’s Digest for the week of March 15, 2024

President:

This week we continued our work with the TWU/IAM negotiations committee via zoom. Next week the full committee will be in Tulsa at the Hall to continue that work in person. I will bring them over to the base for a tour. Several of the IAM guys have not visited the Tulsa base.

This year at the base there will be a lot of movement trying to man up the AO areas so the company can then move people via the bid process to AAERO. There is talk about the Fleet health being less than what they would prefer. Anytime those things are being looked at they have to determine where to bring the work. I have always held the line and commented,” bring it to Tulsa”. Continue to work with your crew and crew chief to be as efficient as you can. We all know that some of the rules, processes and unexpected aircraft findings get in the way of that. I’m just asking everyone to continue doing all you can everyday to make it possible for airplanes to leave on their scheduled date. As we move forward into negotiations the best leverage we have is the work we provide to the company.

Shout out to the 514 Stewards and Officers, they have a lot of work in front of them and they continue to manage it.

I can be reached 24/7 at 918-636-6089

Dale Danker

Vice President:

Chairman of Facilities Maintenance:

I recently attended the contractual quarterly update from the company in Dallas this month. Several of the people from the company were involved in the last contract negotiations and will most likely be involved in this round.

The company informed those present from the TWU, AA has started replacing long term GSE rentals throughout the system, which is a good thing, however so far none have been announced for replacement in Tulsa.

On the maintenance side of things, I took several pictures of the poor craftsmanship of the new equipment installation by the contractors and showed them to those in attendance on the management team, in an effort to get the attention of those present, several of which will likely be in the upcoming contract negotiations.

Facilities maintenance management has informed the TWU that the company will be expanding several of our FMG shops to 24 hour coverage without raising headcount numbers, in an effort to be more aligned with the business. They intend to do this without raising headcount numbers, I’ve asked the company to wait to implement this until the May crew bid and there’s been no word yet on what the scheduling will look like or what shops will be affected.

  • Current budgeted headcount 316
  • Current Headcount 316
  • Headcount on LOA 6

As always feel free to contact me at any time.

Benefit Highlights:

If you haven’t encountered the process yet, you will now be required to create an Alight Security Pin when you call the Benefit Service Center for your health-related issues. Once the pin is established, you will use it as that extra level of security going forward.

FSA/ HSA Resource:

If you have an FSA or HSA account and want to get full use of that account, FSAstore.com or HSAstore.com may be a resource where you can shop a wide range of approved products and services and use your spending card on the site.

A Lincoln Financial resource that hardly gets used is called LifeKeys Services. They offer a wide selection of services from Grief counseling, Legal support, and Financial services. Visit GuidanceResources.com or call 1-855-891-3684. ( First-time user: Enter Web ID LifeKeys)

Aviation History: Just in case you missed it, American Airlines made aviation and cultural history in 1964 when they hired Capt. David Harris as the first Black commercial airline pilot. It was sad news to hear that Capt. Harris passed away on Mar 8, 2024. I had the pleasure of meeting him and to witness his passion for aviation and flying first hand. A true hero and inspiration to all in this small world of aviation.
