Local 514’s Digest for the week of Sept. 23rd, 2022

Presidents Update:

All,

As you know if you use your earned sick time you will be given points that will move you towards termination. The letter put out by the leadership of this Association even mentions how important it is to their membership. In fact, it’s so important for them and the company that calls you a team member, they actually planned for one day of arbitration. I’m sure the excuse will be given that it’s the only day the arbitrator had, or that it’s the only day they could all put their busy schedules on hold to put the case on.
Whatever the excuse will be my opinion is it’s pretty pathetic.

Association Update:

Yesterday, we began the attendance arbitration for all five Association Agreements. The case is being presented for the Association by Christina Gornail, from the law firm of Richard, Phillips, & Rind P.C. We initially prepared to complete the case in the one day made available by the Arbitrator. Due to the number of witnesses on both sides, we will be proceeding with additional days scheduled by the Arbitrator on December 14 & 15.

Vice President’s update:

We had our Union Representatives meeting Monday. We discussed grievances and the information needed to argue them. All members should be giving your Union Representative the documentation needed at the time the grievance is filed to help the process move forward. For example, overtime/fieldtrip sign up sheets, overtime/fieldtrip hours, positive covid test results, etc.

Please let me know if there are any issues in your area with management violating the contract.

Pension Administration Changes

Effective November 1,2022 transition of TWU pension plan administration will change from State Street Bank to Fidelity Investments. All Team Members in the pension plan will receive a letter around September 26,2022 advising of Administration Change. After the transition Pension payments will be sent by Fidelity not State Street Bank, all participants will access pension information through the Fidelity NetBenefits website; active and term-vested participants can run pension estimates or request commencement online. It is recommended that members go to the Pension Service Center and print a copy of Pension Data prior to November 1,2022 .

Grievance reviews:

We are going through the 600 plus Pre-Contract Grievances and are trying to get information on them.  Several of these filed had no attachments to help support the argument.  Example of the OT and FT lists which were on a different computer system that we currently do not have any access to since the company went to WorkBrain.  It is imperative that we attach every document and information we have at the time of filing to ensure that we have a chance to win the grievance.

We are also having issues contacting the Grievant on file and using their phone number or personal email.  Several have changed phones and email addresses and have not updated their information to the TWU 514 website which makes it virtually impossible to work these.   We need every member to take the time and update their contact information to TWU514.org.   If you are having issues you can also contact an E-Board member to help assist in this endeavor.
