James C. Little Letter to Representatives on AA bankruptcy, 11-30-11

Dear Representative:
Yesterday, American Airlines took the step of joining a long list of past legacy carriers in filing for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

The Transport Workers Union of America is the largest labor representative of the combined group. Consequently, our members have much at stake as this process unfolds. As you may be aware, the TWU distinguished itself during the 2003 restructure and continues to this day in providing safe and reliable service to the traveling public.

Unfortunately, with AMR Corporation’s bankruptcy filing, our new role will be to protect our members during the painful process that is to come.
It is our intent, with your help, to mitigate the potentially devastating affect this filing may have upon our members, their families, communities and your constituents.

American and American Eagle combined, service large segments of the US population especially cornerstone markets in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Chicago, New York, Miami and Los Angeles. The TWU and its members have a proud and admirable history with these carriers and look forward to a brighter future.

My purpose in writing you today is to make certain that we open an avenue to have dialogue regarding the road ahead, which unfortunately includes uncertainty for all involved.

On behalf of our members, thank you for your support and continued encouragement.

If you have any questions, concerns or insights please do not hesitate to contact me. Updates to our members, which may be of interest to you, can be found online at http://aa.twu.org .

Sincerely,
James C. Little
International President
